Performance Indicators

As well as monitoring performance of our actions, each year a suite of performance indicators are agreed for monitoring. They are a useful tool to track our progress and service performance year on year using measurements against targets.

All performance indicators are monitored by services. Use of performance indicators can contribute to effective services. They can help improve or maintain performance operational delivery when used to identify good practice and can prompt investigation into poorer areas of performance. Some performance indicators can also ensure that we are focused on our priorities. These are categorised as our key performance indicators and are monitored by the Corporate Management Team and by committee.

Although important, we know that monitoring performance indicators is only one element of assessing the council’s performance. Too much emphasis on performance indicators would carry with it the risk that the measurement process becomes an end in itself.

Our quarterly corporate reporting includes key performance indicators but also demonstrates that we have a clear focus on key actions to deliver our Council Vision and Priorities. In addition to the quarterly reporting, we also annually report a full corporate suite of key performance indicators that provide key strategic information regarding our priorities.
