We collect council tax from residents to help pay for
the local services like policing, refuse collection, roads,
schools, and in some areas the parish council. Council tax applies
to all domestic properties, whether owned or rented.
Money is collected on behalf of us as the borough
council, the county council, the Lancashire Police Authority,
Lancashire Combined Fire Authority.

Council Tax Exemptions and Discounts – Changes from 1
April 2013
With effect from 1 April 2013
exemption classes A and C have been abolished. We have implemented
local arrangements in respect of former class A and C exemptions
and long term empty properties.
With effect from 1 April 2013 the 50%
long term empty property discount will no longer apply where a
property has been empty for six months or more. A summary of
