West Lancashire Challenge

 The West Lancashire Challenge aims to create apprenticeships as well as training and work experience opportunities within businesses and increase participation in volunteering within the community throughout the borough. The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) (external link) has end to end responsibility for apprenticeships in England. Their main role is to work with employers, helping more of them take on apprentices. This website details all you need to know about taking on an apprentice within your business.



Unite with Business

The Unite with Business programme (external link) provides small to medium sized businesses with additional skills to achieve high-impact business projects.  The programme enables businesses to explore the graduate marketplace on a low risk basis.  West Lancashire Construction Academy

The Construction Academy (external link) is a state-of-the-art learning centre which supports skills development for the construction industry. The Academy offers a realistic training environment and industry-standard facilities, which prepares learners for a rewarding career in construction trades, as well as providing essential up-skilling opportunities for those already working in the construction sector.


The Academy supports a wide range of trades and occupations including automotive maintenance, trowel occupations, electrical installation, joinery, motor sports, painting & decorating, performing engineering operations, plastering, plumbing, roofing & slating.

Acas (external link) aims to improve organisations and working life through better employment relations by supplying up-to-date information, independent advice and high quality training, and working with employers and employees to solve problems and improve performance.

Jobcentre Plus (external link) has one of Britain’s largest databases of job vacancies and as an employer you can advertise your job vacancies with them. Jobcentre plus works with employers across many sectors including care, construction, hospitality and retail. Search the database and find a job to suit you using the jobs and skills search. The database also lets you search for training,

career information, voluntary work and childcare providers across the UK.
