The Commercial Safety Team inspects workplaces on a programmed basis and, as well as taking enforcement action where appropriate, provides advice and education to businesses.
Many accidents which occur in the workplace have to be reported to the council by law and we investigate these to determine the cause and to prevent them happening again in the future.
We enforce Sunday trading legislation, as well as inspecting premises that require registration for skin piercing including tattooing, electrolysis, and acupuncture. The requirements for skin piercing are contained in the Council's byelaws (pdf 46kb).
