Under the Hypnotism Act 1952, anyone giving an exhibition,
demonstration or performance of hypnotism on any person or in
connection with entertainment to which the public are admitted
whether by payment or otherwise, is required to obtain
authorisation from the Council by way of consent.
A separate application must be made by the
person who will be carrying out the act of Hypnotism in relation to
each premises/venue intended to be used.
However, the premises must also be licensed
for the appropriate type of regulated entertainment under the
Licensing Act 2003.
How to apply
Applications should be submitted at least 28
days before the performance using the details given below. However,
consent will only be granted if the applicant is able to
demonstrate compliance with the Council's conditions.
The Council may charge a fee for authorising
such an event.
There is no standard application form. Applicants should contact
the Licensing Service in the first instance to discuss

Tacit Consent will apply.
This means that you will be able to act as though your application
is granted if you have not heard from the Council by the end
of the target period.
