Hypnotism

Under the Hypnotism Act 1952, anyone giving an exhibition, demonstration or performance of hypnotism on any person or in connection with entertainment to which the public are admitted whether by payment or otherwise, is required to obtain authorisation from the Council by way of consent.

A separate application must be made by the person who will be carrying out the act of Hypnotism in relation to each premises/venue intended to be used.

However, the premises must also be licensed for the appropriate type of regulated entertainment under the Licensing Act 2003.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted at least 28 days before the performance using the details given below. However, consent will only be granted if the applicant is able to demonstrate compliance with the Council's conditions.

The Council may charge a fee for authorising such an event.

There is no standard application form. Applicants should contact the Licensing Service in the first instance to discuss the application.
