The Chairman of the council
Each year at the annual meeting, the council appoints a new
Chairman and Vice Chairman from among the 54 council members.
The Chairman and Vice Chairman, and their consorts, attend a
variety of civic functions during the year to represent West
Lancashire.
The current Chairman is Cllr Cyril Ainscough. Cyril, who represents
the Scott ward, will serve as Chairman until May 2009.

Chairman's charities
One of the other important roles the Chairman has is to raise money
for their chosen charities. This year, the Chairman will be raising
money for a number of small local charities.
Cyril said: “There are so many small groups out there that
do a lot of great work with so little money that I felt I wanted to
do something to help them. At this stage I’ve not picked any
particular groups, as I’m still open to suggestions. So I’d love to
hear from as many of you as possible.”
