New forms to simplify planning applications

1 February 2008, 08/18

New forms to simplify planning applications
Big changes to the planning application system are just around the corner! From 6 April new National Standard Planning Application forms are introduced.

While these forms will remain available on paper, the District Council aims to encourage as many people as possible to complete and submit them online.

Online applications will give greater benefits to both planning professionals and the general public from:
· a simpler, streamlined application process
· a saving in time and effort making an application
· clearer online guidance during the application process
· a better chance of submitting a valid application

To give customers an opportunity to become familiar with the new forms before 6 April, when they become mandatory, the District Council has introduced them for paper applications from 28 January and online applications from 25 February.

Councillor Ian Grant, Portfolio Holder for Planning, said: "The Council is committed to make the application process for planning permission as simple as possible. Persuading people to make their application online is all part of the process, and the more people do, the more efficiently we can deal with their applications."

There are already plenty of planning matters available online, using the District Council's award-winning website.
