Premiership footballer tests his skills on leisure centre's new 5-a-side pitches
A premiership football player is to test his skills on the brand new 5-a-side pitches at Banks Leisure Centre next week.

On 7th February, Everton's top midfielder Leon Osman is to come and visit the new Astroturf pitches, which have recently benefited from a £100,000 makeover.

Work started last October to overhaul the old pitches and replace them with the more modern Astroturf surfaces. The project also included new internal drainage, floodlighting, goal posts and surrounding fences for security.

They were unveiled to customers just before Christmas and since the opening players have been really positive about the improvements.

Bill Lloyd, Chairman of the West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust, said: "We unveiled the new pitches to our customers in December and they have been delighted with the new facilities so we thought it would be a great idea to get a well-known premiership player down to test the new facilities. Leon is a well-known player and we're really looking forward to his visit."

Leon will officially open the facilities as well as provide football tips to the youngsters on the night.

Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "It's great to have such a popular, talented football player coming along to acknowlege the work that the West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust is doing to improve sports facilities and I'm sure the children will be delighted to meet him."

The recent investment at Banks Leisure Centre is just one of the many improvements that have been made. Why not visit one of the following five centres to find out what else is on offer and take up a new healthier lifestyle for 2008. There are plenty of programmes, new workout classes and exercise regimes to choose from.

The Trust has responsibility for the five leisure centres across the District: Nye Bevan Pool, Park Pool, Skelmersdale Sports Centre, Banks Leisure Centre and Burscough Fitness and Racquets Leisure Centre.
