Have your say on town centre conservation

19 February 2008, 08/43

Have your say on town centre conservation
If you've ever wanted to have a say on the Ormskirk Town Centre Conservation Area you will soon have your chance.

The character of the area was last appraised by the Council's Heritage and Environment section in 1999 and another review will be carried out this year.

Appraisals are used to help the Council make decisions on the management and development of the conservation area, to justify investment and to support regeneration.

To help decide the best way to approach this new appraisal the Council intends to hold a focus group meeting next month, with representatives from community and stakeholder groups invited to take part.

It's a great opportunity for interested parties to help look at how best to update the existing information and to consider proposals, which will improve the area's character and appearance.

A public exhibition is also planned for later in the year that will offer the chance for everyone to have a say. A date for it has still to be set so look out for leaflets and announcements in the press nearer the time.

In the meantime if you have any comments or suggestions about this stage of the process please submit them in writing to the Conservation Officer, Heritage and Environment Section, West Lancashire District Council, 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, Lancs L39 2DF.

Cllr Ian Grant, portfolio holder for Regeneration and Planning, said: "This appraisal is important to preserve or enhance the historical character and appearance of the town centre conservation area.

"Both the focus group and the public exhibition will provide us with information that we will be able to use in carrying out the appraisal, so I would encourage anyone with an interest in the town centre conservation area to take the opportunity to have their say."
