Council services disrupted by industrial
action
West Lancashire District Council services will
be disrupted on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 July 2008 due to
industrial action nationally in relation to a pay dispute.
The Council anticipates that it will not be
able to offer a normal service on the day of the strike, and some
Council buildings will be closed to visitors. However, emergency
cover in relation to Council services will be maintained. The
effects on services are listed below and information will be
available on our website.
Telephone calls to the
Council
The normal Contact Centre service will not be
available and callers to the Council's main number (01695 577177)
will hear a recorded message advising them who to contact in the event of an
emergency.
Visits to the Council
The Customer Service Points in the Concourse,
Skelmersdale, and the Receptions
at 52 Derby Street will be
closed.
Housing
The Repairs Service will operate as
usual: 01695 720681.
We will continue to provide a normal service
for homeless people.
The Home Care Link lifeline
alarm service for elderly and disabled people will continue to
operate as normal, as will the Council’s sheltered housing
service.
There will be no normal service for rents and
estate management on these days.

Investment Centre, Skelmersdale
The Investment Centre will be open for
business as normal. However, the Council’s Regeneration and
Estates Division, which is based
at the Investment Centre, will offering a reduced service on these
days.
West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust - Sports Centres
and Swimming Pools
The Sports Centres
and Swimming Pools, operated by the Trust in partnership with the
Council, will be open: Nye Bevan
Pool, Skelmersdale; Park Pool,
Ormskirk; Skelmersdale and Burscough Sports Centres and Banks Leisure Centre.
Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk
Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk, will be open.
Community Centres
Ormskirk Community
Centre and the Community Centres in
Skelmersdale will be open as usual with
the exception of Ashurst Community
Centre.
Beacon Park
Beacon Park Golf Course and the Ranger Office
at Beacon Country Park will be open.
Civic Hall
The Civic Hall in Ormskirk will be closed.

Services
There will be a reduced service covering

applications or breaches of planning control and 01695 585081 for
general planning enquiries.

A limited service will be offered and
customers are asked to phone only if essential.
Meetings
The Council meeting on 16 July 2008 is
expected to go ahead as usual.
Ormskirk
Market
Ormskirk Market on
Thursday 17 July may be affected and stallholders will be advised
accordingly.
Refuse and recycling collections
Refuse and recycling collections may be
affected. It is too early at this stage to finalise alternative arrangements. Until further
advised, residents are advised to put their bins, bags and
recycling materials out for collection as usual. In the event of
disruption, alternative arrangements will be advised in due course
and full information will be provided on our website.
