Communities in West Lancashire
benefit from partnership working!
Success in improving the district
through partnership working will be discussed at the West
Lancashire Local Strategic Partnership’s (WLLSP) annual
conference.
At the gathering on Friday 27 June, partners will hear about the
successes of many LSP-led projects over the last year and the
exciting initiatives in store for 2008/09.
Rosie Cooper, Chair of the LSP, said: "We have had a lot of
successes over the last year. For example, you only have to look
around Burscough’s revamp and the work going on to make our other
town centres in Ormskirk and Skelmersdale equally as attractive to
see this.
"Through West Lancashire Inspire, a four-year project that
commenced in 2005, we will have invested over £9 million through
physical regeneration schemes across the district as well as grant
support to businesses. This money has been used carry out
employment area improvements and promote gateway and transport
corridor initiatives and help local businesses redevelop their
premises and improve their security. We’re also working with the
District Council and partners to increase the number of affordable
homes in our area because this is an issue that matters a lot to
local people. And one of our most recent achievements is the
virtual business panel ‘Let’s Talk Business’, which is a web-based
online forum to engage more effectively with the private sector.
All these and lots more exciting plans show that we have great
ambitions for West Lancashire!"
During the event, there will also be presentations on the
Investing in Business Regeneration Programme, the Safer Stronger
Communities Project, the West Lancashire Local Development
Framework, questions with the panel and workshops.
Cllr Ian Grant, Leader of West Lancashire District Council,
said: "West Lancashire has a hugely successful record of
partnership working and over the last few years has attracted
millions of pounds of external funding to the area to create jobs,
support businesses, fight crime, regenerate the area and improve
the lives of local people. The annual conference is to bring
everyone together to celebrate our many major successes and
achievements and to enable us to plan ahead for a brighter future
to ensure that we keep going from strength to strength for
generations to come."
