Tag rugby tournament promises to be a
success
Pupils from Skelmersdale primary schools are set to battle it
out for the winning scrum in this year’s popular tag rugby
tournament.
Now in its fourth year, West Lancashire District Council’s
Sports Development Team have once again organised the bonanza
competition to take place following coaching the youngsters how to
play this popular sport.
So boys and girls aged between 10 and 11 to go head to head at
Delphside Primary School in Skelmersdale on 12th June to try out
their new techniques.
The idea behind the event is to get as many youngsters as
possible playing the sport whilst learning new skills at the same
time.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said:"This promises to be an exciting event and will give children
the opportunity to show off their skills and talents on the pitch
in a fun and informal environment. I’m sure the skills that they
have learned can be used in other sports too - so good luck to all
the teams!"
The Council’s Sports Development Team is also helping to
organise an athletics competition on 4th July in conjunction with
the School Sports Association.
Children from schools in Skelmersdale between the ages of 7 and
11 will be competing against each other in a variety of running,
jumping and throwing events at Robin Park in Wigan.
