New ‘Tramper’ opens up the countryside for the less
mobile!
Do you struggle when it comes to accessing Beacon Country Park?
Then the answer is to try the exciting tramper buggy that’s about
to be launched.
This brand new outdoor activity scooter has been designed to
help the less agile and people with low mobility to enjoy the
park.
West Lancashire District Council has purchased the buggy with
grants from Lancashire County Council’s Access to the Countryside
initiative, Hanson Environment Fund and Lancashire Environmental
Fund. The project was co-ordinated by Groundwork Lancashire West
& Wigan, and includes a suite of works to improve access to
this popular countryside site.
The off-road mobility transport can safely cover rough ground,
mud and grass. With the added benefit of new access paths being
built into the park, it’s a perfect way to discover the hidden
beauty of the award-winning site.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "We
realise that people who are less agile may not always be able to
walk easily around Beacon Country Park as it is so big and hilly
but we want people of all abilities be able to enjoy the
countryside. So this unique buggy is the answer because it gives
people with low mobility the chance to go further than ever before
and explore the hidden countryside."
Groundwork Executive Director Bob Allen added: "Groundwork aims
to involve everyone in enjoying their local environment - so this
is ideal."
The tramper buggy will be available to use free of charge by
members of the public who are less agile. It will be officially
unveiled on Wednesday 2 July.
