Don’t fall foul with your canine
New powers have come into force to clampdown on dog fouling
issues.
In a bid to keep West Lancashire clean, green and safe, the
Council is making use of new laws from which came into effect on
1st May to tackle irresponsible canine owners.
The new dog fouling controls, made under the Clean
Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005, means that these laws will
cover all land within West Lancashire to which the public have
access.
Previously, the fouling laws covered only areas that were
adopted by the Council. But now these new controls apply to all
parts of the district - which means that there is nowhere for dog
owners to hide if they fail to clean up after their pet.
So officers will be enforcing the new legislation to ensure that
the district is kept clean, tidy and free from dog faeces. Any one
found committing an offence will be issued a fixed penalty for
£75.00.
Dave Tilleray, Executive Manager for Community Services, said:
"We are committed to keeping the streets of West Lancashire clean
and green, which is why we are using these new powers to discourage
irresponsible dog ownership. As before, an offence is committed
when a dog owner fails to clean up after their pet. However, these
new controls allow our officers to enforce the legislation in all
parts of the district - so watch out wherever you go and remember
to clean up after your canine."
Anyone who witnesses a fouling offence is urged to report it to
the Council on 01695 577177 or online via our dog
control pages.
We investigate all problems regarding dog fouling and take a
hard line against offenders. When reporting dog fouling, please
provide as much information as possible to help the Enforcement
Officer, such as the location of the fouling, details of any dates
or times when dogs are seen to foul and any information regarding
the dog's owner.
