It’s dynamo for young footballers

Young footballers in Skelmersdale will be able to improve their game following a cash windfall from the Safer, Stronger Communities Fund.

As part of the £3.7m funding to make Digmoor, Moorside and parts of Tanhouse cleaner, greener and safer, the Neighbourhood Board have given Dynamo Rangers £16,000 to benefit their game.

As a result 10 mixed teams of boys and girls who are part of the league will benefit from new training shirts, jackets, trophies and financial support for training venues.

Caroline Stewart, Club Secretary of Dynamo Rangers, said:

"We are delighted to have received this funding because it means that we can continue our work without the stress of worrying whether we can afford our outgoings. The boys and girls will really benefit from this money because it will give them a sense of belonging, self-inclusion and self-worth. In fact, four of our players have just been signed up with professional teams, which shows just what opportunities can come their way."

Also, as part of the overall £3.7m project, a community litter pick with a twist has been organised for Wednesday 28th May because the event will finish off with a musical workshop in the afternoon. Those who come along on the day will be able to make music with the rubbish that they find during the clean up. Anyone who wants to take part should meet at The Fold, Little Digmoor from 10am.

MP Rosie Cooper, Chair of the Local Strategic Partnership, said: "We all know Skelmersdale is a football-mad town and this £16,000 injection is a real boost for all those involved with Dynamo Rangers. It is important that we support our local youngsters to help them involved in team sports and encourage them to participate in something where they can both get active and make friends at the same time."

Cllr Paul Greenall, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, added: "There are more exciting ventures planned in the next few months to benefit the whole community, which will improve the quality of life for everyone and make the areas cleaner, safer and greener."

Anyone who would like information about the project can contact Chris Skinkis/Karen Warmington at the Neighbourhood Management Office, 01695 585118 or email neighbourhood.management@westlancsdc.gov.uk.
