No sting in this nettle event!
Almost everyone is familiar with the nettle’s formidable sting
but here’s your chance to discover why the plant needn’t be so
scary.
To celebrate national ‘Be Nice To Nettles Week’, the Council is
hosting a special event at Ormskirk’s Coronation Park on Sunday
18th May starting from 2pm.
Those who come along will be able to find out from the Urban
Park Ranger why this adaptable plant that is hated by many is
adored by wildlife.
During the event there will be the chance to sample some mouth
watering refreshments made from the plant, including nettle tea and
soup!
Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "The nettle
to many is a troublesome weed that should be eradicated wherever it
is found. However, it has played, and continues to play, an
important role in the natural world and this will all be revealed
at this interesting event."
To get involved, please contact the Council’s Urban Park Ranger
Chris Horsfall on 07824 625321 or email chris.horsfall@westlancsdc.gov.uk.
