Play your way to fitness during half term
Get a head start to fitness by using your spare playtime to find
out about the most fun ways to exercise.
During the May half-term school holidays, West Lancashire
District Council is organising a variety of free warm-up sessions
at Ormskirk’s Coronation Park as a prelude to the launch of its
very first summer sports programme.
The sessions are aimed at children aged 8 to 14 years of age and
will run from 10am until 12noon on Tuesday 27th, Thursday 29th and
Saturday 31st May.
Youngsters who come along will be given an introduction to
fitness, will be shown how to warm up before activities and will
have the chance to play a variety of games including football,
volleyball, rounders and cricket.
The idea behind this latest initiative is to look at fun ways
for children to exercise this summer whilst promoting different
sports clubs in the local area.
Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said:"Exercise is
a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get fit at the same time. It
also stops youngsters getting bored during the school holidays so I
would urge children to come along and try out their sporting
skills."
Refreshments will be available on the day but children are asked
to wear suitable clothing and protection for the weather. All
participants are asked to book on in advance. For further
information and to book, please contact the park ranger on 07824
625321.
