Bright future for Clock Tower

The historic Clock Tower looks set to enjoy another 100 years as
an iconic feature in Ormskirk Town Centre as the finishing touches
are added to its impressive makeover.
A report in 2006 into the condition of the tower identified that
essential masonry repairs were required and the District Council is
now delighted to announce that these works, along with an overall
cosmetic facelift, have now been completed.
To mark the end of the works the Clock Tower has also been fitted
with some special finishing touches.
The date stone in the tower had become weathered over time. So, as
part of the Council's dedication to responsible conservation work,
the original wording has been left to continue to age naturally and
a special bronze plaque has been fitted next to the date stone -
allowing people to enjoy the history of the Clock Tower for many
years to come.
In addition to this, special lighting has also been installed which
will illuminate the impressive tower and clock face at night -
meaning that the tower can be admired around the clock!
Cllr Ian Grant, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Regeneration,
said: "I am very pleased that the Clock Tower has been given some
much needed TLC in order to ensure that it continues to be a
striking and prominent feature in the town centre for many years to
come - and these final touches to finish off the improvement works
are just great."
