Business award
An ambitious West Lancashire entrepreneur has been given a top
accolade for his business achievements.
Phil Lawson, from Virtue Technologies based in the council's
flagship Investment Centre, scooped the District Council's title of
'Outstanding Business Achievement 2007'.
The prestigious award was given to him in recognition of the
progress the business has made since it was founded only in
February 2006. In this short timescale his company has exceeded all
its target and expected growth and is playing an important role in
the district's growing technology industry.
Phil was particularly complimentary about the way the Investment
Centre's positive image had really helped him build his reputation
for his own organisation. He also spoke about how he had really
benefited from the support given to him by the innovative
Enterprising West Lancashire programme and IT Cluster Groups run by
the Council.
Sales director Phil said: "At Virtue Technologies we have been
extremely appreciative of all the help we have received from all
the business support groups. It has helped us to develop our
business quickly, gaining help in many areas we had no experience
in. I would specifically like to thank the Enterprising West
Lancashire and Creative Lancashire teams who have given us some
invaluable business advice and training"
He was given the 2007 award at the 'Have We Got News For You' event
to mark annual Enterprise Day on 14th November, which was organised
to promote and encourage enterprise activity across the
district.
More than 80 individuals attended the successful event and it
included talks from inspirational guest speakers.
Cllr Ian Grant, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Planning,
said: "This was a hugely successful event which saw the likes of
Edge Hill Business School and Skelmersdale and Ormskirk Colleges
talk about their exciting plans for the future. They mentioned how
they want to work with local businesses, to up-skill the local
workforce. They also let businesses know what they can offer them
in terms of resources within the university and colleges they can
utilise to undertake projects and about taking on placement
students can really add value to their businesses. Pepsico Walkers
in Skelmersdale also talked about social responsibility and what
their exciting plans are for their factory in Skelmersdale. Other
presenters gave talks about setting up on their own and advice to
budding entrepreneurs. All in all it was very rewarding to hear all
the inspirational business success stories we have here in West
Lancs. What's more, the Council has lots more activities planned in
the coming months to help business, boost the economy and create
more jobs - so watch this space."
Also launched at the event were the new West
Lancashire Investment Centre website, the newly branded Cafi
Wi-fi, J4 Conferencing and the Virtual Office and the Office Space
at the Investment Centre.
