Calling all town centre businesses - we want your
views
The District Council is urging businesses from Ormskirk town centre
to send back their responses to an important questionnaire before
the deadline of 14 December.
Local residents and businesses have raised concerns about an
increase in traffic levels along the pedestrian priority streets of
the town centre. In response to this, the Council has set about
trying to find the best possible solution to reduce the amount of
vehicles in the heart of the town.
To form the first stage of this process, letters and questionnaires
have been sent out to shops and business asking for them to
identify their business delivery requirements and also their
opinions on how best to tackle the issue.
In order to make this consultation exercise as representative as
possible the Council is now encouraging everyone who has received a
questionnaire to make sure that they fill it in and send it
back.
Cllr Westley, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, said: "Over recent
years there has been a noticeable increase in the use of Ormskirk
town centre by vehicles, particularly heavy goods vehicles,
entering and parking in the town centre. Clearly this raises some
concerns and we are now seeking the thoughts and ideas of local
businesses to see how we can best deal with the issue.
"We are committed to listening to the opinions of local people and
we fully appreciate that some businesses may have specific access
requirements during the working day. It is for this reason that we
want to hear back from as many businesses as possible so that we
can work together to find the best possible solution for everyone
concerned."
