It's a goal for Banks Leisure Centre

7th December 2007, 07/431

It's a goal for Banks Leisure Centre's new pitches!
Christmas will come early for footballers with the launch of brand new 5-a-side pitches at Banks Leisure Centre following £100,000 investment.

On 10th December West Lancashire Community Leisure Trust will unveil the top quality all-weather Astroturf football pitches to its customers.

Work started in October, with the existing pitches overhauled to make way for the more modern playing surface.

The facelift worth more than £100,000 includes the laying of Astroturf, new internal drainage, floodlighting and goal posts, surrounding fences for security and other works.

It is a major goal for sports enthusiasts who play 5-a-side football because the two new areas replace the old pitches that were in poor condition and of a traditional tarmac surface

Bill Lloyd, Chairman of the Community Leisure Trust, said: "We're delighted that this project has been finished just in time for the festive period for our footballers to enjoy. I'd like to thank them for their patience and support whilst the works have been carried out and I'm sure that they will be pleased with the new pitches, which are a major improvement on the old ones."

The new pitches will be opened to the public on 10th December (weather permitting) and can be used for football leagues, coaching, training and leisure bookings.

To make the most of the new pitches, Evolution 5-a-Side football leagues are starting soon at the site and applications to participate are already being taken for a 2008 launch.

Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "The Trust has invested significantly in the new facilities at Banks Leisure Centre in order to improve the customer experience, which they should be applauded for. I'm sure customers will be thrilled with the results and it may even help them improve their game."

Those who make regular bookings at Banks Leisure Centre are being automatically reinstated so that they are the first to enjoy the facilities. Bookings are also being taken for casual use and football club bookings. For more information, please contact 01704 212970 or email: info.banks@leisure.serco.com.

The Trust has responsibility for the five leisure centres across the district: Nye Bevan Pool, Park Pool, Skelmersdale Sports Centre, Banks Leisure Centre and Burscough Fitness and Racquets Leisure Centre.
