Latest Community Chest Grants
Five community groups are to benefit from cash windfalls to help
them realise their ambitions, thanks to grant assistance from West
Lancashire District Council.
Under the council's popular Community Chest scheme to provide
funding to help improve people's lives, five well-established
groups who offer invaluable services to their communities have been
awarded money to help with their projects.
Four Lane Ends Mission in Bickerstaffe, who have been at the heart
of parish affairs for over 100 years, offer the only community
facility in their area and so they have been awarded £1,000 to help
purchase much-needed new chairs.
Crawford Village and Pimbo Lane Playing Fields Association are
trying to refurbish their local village hall and playing fields to
provide facilities to local residents and groups. They will use
their £500 to help towards building a car park and to install play
equipment.
The Good Companion's Over 60's Club based in Skelmersdale has been
given £400 to help them with costs for rent, day trips, Christmas
meals and social events.
Tontine Methodist Church in Skelmersdale, which has been in
existence for over 100 years will be able to use its £500 grant to
replace old wooden tables infested with woodworm.
Aughton and Ormskirk Probus Club will use their £475 towards
purchasing a digital projector and a screen for speakers at
meetings
Cllr Rob Bailey, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said: "It is
wonderful to see so many deserving causes benefit from the
Community Chest. I would urge community organisations and
individuals who are in need of funds to find out whether they meet
the criteria for funding so that the Council can help them."
The latest round of grants is an example of how the Council is
using its funding pot to help groups with much-needed financial
assistance.
Cllr Adrian Owens, Portfolio Holder for Finance, said: "When we
award grants to community groups and individuals we always try to
do our best to help as many as possible because they play such a
fantastic role in providing services within the heart of their
community. I'm delighted that we have been able to award these five
groups with funds so that they can continue with their initiatives
and developments."
