Improvements are underway in Ormskirk
Improvements are underway in Ormskirk town
centre to make the Clock Tower area safer and more attractive.
West Lancashire Borough Council is replacing
the old stone setts around the Clock Tower with natural stone slabs
as part of a £16,000 project to improve the centre of the shopping
area.
The new paving will make the area safer for
disabled people. The Council had received complaints that the
cobbled surface was difficult for people with disabilities to walk
across and was uneven for wheelchair users.
Cllr Martin Forshaw, portfolio holder for
planning, said: “We are putting down natural stone slabs to match
with the paving in Aughton Street. This has a much more even
surface than the old cobbles and so will be better for people with
disabilities and for wheelchairs, prams and pushchairs. We
will also be installing some new benches and giving the litter bins
a coat of paint, so the whole area will have a smart new look.”
The work is expected to be completed in July.
Later in the summer the Council is planning to refurbish the
compass which is a feature of the pedestrian area close to the
Clock Tower.
