Tourism attractions make West Lancashire a winning place to visit

West Lancashire businesses shone at this year’s Lancashire and Blackpool Tourism Awards despite challenging economic times.

West Lancashire Borough Council is delighted that there were a number of finalists and winners from the borough at the prestigious awards, which is testimonial to the wonderful visitor attractions here.

The winners, highly commended and finalists were:

  • Best Tourism Experience of the Year: Farmaggedon at Farmer Ted’s Farm Park, Ormskirk (Winner)

  • Large Visitor Attraction of the Year: WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, Ormskirk (Highly Commended)

  • Small Hotel of the Year: West Tower Country House Hotel, Aughton (Highly Commended)

  • Taste Lancashire Award: Homestead's Farm Shop (Finalist)
  • Small Visitor Attraction of the Year: Chapel Gallery (Finalist)

The Awards were supported by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), and many of the winners will now go on to represent Lancashire and Blackpool at the England’s Northwest Tourism Awards later this year.

Cllr Adrian Owens, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Estates, said: "I’d like to congratulate these businesses who should be proud that they are celebrating such outstanding achievements in these challenging times. They have used their creativity to develop their product to sustain and, in some cases, expand their business and visitor numbers, which is a real boost for West Lancashire. They are really helping to put us on the map!"

Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio holder for Community Services, added: "It’s also the first time that our very own Chapel Gallery entered the awards. To be a chosen finalist is a reflection of all the exciting art and cultural initiatives that have been developed over the years. Judges were particularly complimentary about the friendliness of the staff at the venue and the excellent visitor experience it offers. So well done to everyone at the gallery too."
