Help fundraise for youth club
Children are hoping to raise money for their local youth club
with a special fundraising fun day.
The event is on Wednesday 20 May, from 5pm to 8pm at Scarisbrick
Village Hall, Smithy Lane, and has been organised by the Council’s
Sports Development Team and youngsters.
Parents and children who go along will pay 50p entrance fee and
will be able to enjoy a barbeque, games, a bouncy castle and the
chance to buy some of the delicious cakes that youngsters from the
youth club at the village hall have baked.
The idea behind the event is to raise money for the youth club
to buy more equipment, games and other fun material that can be
used for the youth club activities.
Dave Tilleray, Executive Manager for Community Services, said:
"Since we set up the Scarisbrick youth club it has become really
popular because there aren’t many facilities like this in rural
areas. It’s a chance for children to come along and enjoy
themselves in a fun, informal environment to meet with friends and
take part in activities and games - and it’s free. But we thought
it would be a great idea to hold a fundraising event to help with
costs to purchase more equipment for the club and to help towards
the costs for trips away for the children."
Children who want to try the youth club at Scarisbrick Village
Hall can go along on Wednesdays between 4.30pm and 6.30pm and
Thursdays between 5pm and 7pm. During the club times, young people
can enjoy everything from film nights, arts and crafts, indoor
sports, computers and other activities. In the warmer weather lots
of activities will also take place outdoors.
This latest initiative is part of the Council’s ‘Play Project’,
which was launched in autumn 2008 to encourage new leisure
opportunities for children who live in rural communities and those
in older age groups between 11 and 17 years.
The project is thanks to Big Lottery funding to improve access
to play in West Lancashire for those target groups who don’t have
as many facilities on their doorstep to give them a chance to
access new leisure pastimes away from the classroom.
