Kite festival entertainment is set to soar!
Let’s all go fly a kite at this year’s popular Kite and
Outdoor Sports Festival, which has an even bigger line-up than ever
before.
The two-day extravaganza, now in its seventh year, is to
be held on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June from 11am until 5pm at the
award-winning Beacon Country Park, Beacon Lane, Up
Holland.
Attracting thousands of flying enthusiasts each year,
2009’s event is sure to tempt even more visitors to the site
because there is a bigger entertainment programme
planned.
For the last few years Team Extreme have wowed the crowds
with some powerful extreme sports demonstrations on a mini ramp.
But for this year’s show the professional riders are bringing with
them a gigantic 6ft high 20ft wide spine ramp to try out their
daring stunts using BMX bikes, inline-skates and skateboards. The
bigger arena means there’s more room to show off their heart
stopping jumps and back flips as they are catapulted to dizzying
new heights! Anyone who is brave enough can even have a go
themselves as they are offering coaching sessions too.
The Northern Kite Group, who help to organise the festival
with West Lancashire District Council, will also dazzle visitors
with weird and wonderful kites of all shapes and sizes. They will
showcase mesmerising displays of kite-flying skills, altitude
sprints and even a teddy bear parachute drop.
There will also be children’s rides, large inflatables, a
climbing wall, lots of traders and refreshment stalls.
Dave Tilleray, Executive Manager for Community Services,
said: "Last year’s event attracted record crowds so we hope to
build on this success again by offering a bumper programme that
will attract old and young alike. The extreme sports displays have
always been immensely popular with the crowds, so we decided to
have an even bigger display this year. There really is something
for everyone, from flying your own kite to watching some of the
heart-stopping displays. Or you can simply take time out by
browsing through the trade stalls. So put the dates in your
diary."
