Dog foulers fined
Three irresponsible dog owners have been hit in the
pocket for not cleaning up after their pooch in the Council’s war
against environmental crime.
West Lancashire Borough Council is continuing its tough ‘name
and shame’ policy as part of its battle to reduce dog fouling in
the area.
As a result the following people have been issued with a Fixed
Penalty Notice for dog fouling offences from 1 June to 30 September
2009.
- Mr D Jones, Ormskirk Road, Skelmersdale
- Mr G Dunn, Briars Lane, Lathom
- Mr P Hutton, Fern Close, Skelmersdale
Councillor Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community
Services said: "We are determined to make the borough a cleaner
place to live and this should serve as a warning to others to be a
responsible dog owner and clean up after your pet. If you don’t,
you risk a fine, prosecution and being named and shamed.
The majority of dog owners DO act responsibly and we aim to help
these people by providing facilities to allow them to clean up
after their pets, including dog waste bins and free ‘poop scoop’
bags. However, we will continue to take tough action against the
small minority of irresponsible dog owners who don’t do this."
The Council is currently dealing with some localised areas of
the borough where there has been an increase in the number of dog
fouling complaints, and are targeting these areas with increased
enforcement activity.
Anyone who witnesses a fouling offence is urged to report it to
the Council online at www.westlancs.gov.uk/dogs or
by contacting 01695 577177. When reporting incidents, please
provide as much information as possible to help the enforcement
officer, such as the location of the fouling, details of any dates
or times when dogs are seen to foul and any information regarding
the dog's owner.
