Help our countryside and wildlife prepare for
winter
Why not help our nature and wildlife make it through the winter
months and join one of our outdoor events in November.
As the temperature begins to drop, nature is preparing for the
colder months in many ways. Some animals are beginning to
hibernate, and some are putting on extra fat for warmth, whilst
work needs to be done on the ground to maintain our
countryside.
To reflect this seasonal shift West Lancashire Borough Council’s
Parks and Countryside Service has organised a variety of outdoor
events for people of all ages to enjoy.
There’s everything from making bird feeders and habitat boxes to
hedge laying and seed gathering. Check the Council website
www.westlancs.gov.uk/events
for more details.
Cllr Andrew Fowler, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said: "We’re all preparing for the winter months so why not come
along and see how we help nature and wildlife deal with the cold by
joining one of our free events. It’s a great way to learn more and
discover the wonders of the outdoors."
Events are free to join but it’s a good idea to book in
advance, as places are limited. For more information or to book
events at our countryside sites and Beacon Country Park, Beacon
Lane, Up Holland, contact 01695 622794 or email beacon.park@westlancs.gov.uk.
For events at Coronation Park, Park Road, Ormskirk, contact 01695
585147 or email chris.horsfall@westlancs.gov.uk.
With these events wear sturdy footwear and suitable clothing
for the weather. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. When
booking, check to see whether you need to bring a packed lunch.
