Don’t lose your vote - it’s your voice!
You need to be on the electoral register to have your say in
local, parliamentary and European elections and the District
Council is urging everyone to make sure they are registered to
vote.
Registration forms have already been sent out and until the 26
November 2008 householders can choose one of four ways to reply;
click to go online through the website;
call to use the freephone service;
text to register a no change, or
post the form back in the usual way.
From the 18 September until the 22 October 2008, canvassers will
also be calling at households who have not yet registered, to offer
help and advice with completing the form. All of our canvassers
will be carrying full identification, please make sure you ask to
see this before giving any information.
Bill Taylor, West Lancs Returning Officer, said: "Registering as
an elector is easier than ever before, especially now there are
four ways to reply. So if you haven’t done so already, make sure
you register as soon as possible.
"As always, remember that our canvassers will be
carrying full identification and for your safety please make sure
you ask to see this first."
Click or call: if all the details on the form
are correct, and you are sure there won’t be any changes before the
15 October 2008, you can register online or by telephone. The
website address and the freephone number are given on the form.
When you go online, or use the freephone service, you will be
asked to key in the security code that is printed at the top of the
form. Then you will be told whether the persons in your household
are currently included or excluded from the edited register, and
you will be asked if you wish to make any changes regarding these
exclusions. You can also request an application form for a postal
vote.
SMS Service: If you would like to register a no
change, meaning all the details on the form are correct you can
text your specific DDI and security code that are printed on the
form to 80212. You will receive a return message confirming your
successful registration.
Post: If the details on the form are incorrect,
or if you wish to include or delete anyone, you must amend the form
accordingly and sign and return it in the pre-paid envelope
provided.
