Emergency road closure
Emergency sewer repairs are to be carried out
in Ormskirk town centre from Monday 18
August.
A section of Burscough Street within the town
centre pedestrian area, from the Clock Tower to the junction with
Derby Street West, will be closed to vehicles for approximately two
weeks.
Pedestrian access will be maintained for
business premises throughout the works. The remainder of Burscough
Street, past the library down to Burscough Road, will not be
affected.
The sewer repair scheme is being arranged by
United Utilities in conjunction with Lancashire County Council, the
highways authority. The work involves the replacement of a drain
connection serving a number of properties in Burscough Street.
West Lancashire District Council is working
with the other organisations to ensure that disruption to the town
centre is kept to a minimum, recognising
that pedestrian safety and access to business premises
are of paramount importance.
United Utilities have arranged to send letters
to all the businesses affected to give information about the work
and invite feedback on their concerns. The United Utilities contact
centre (tel
0845 602 0406) will deal with enquiries during the scheme.
Cllr Martin Forshaw, portfolio holder for
planning and transportation, said: “The District Council has been
liaising with United Utilities and the County Council to ensure
that disruption to local businesses, shoppers and visitors is
minimised and that safety is kept as a top priority.”
The work is programmed for completion
by Friday 29 August. It is not
anticipated that Ormskirk Market will
be affected.
