cg_outofthisworldCreative youngsters have chance to exhibit their artwork!

Talented young people have a unique opportunity to exhibit their works of art by entering this year’s Youth Open Exhibition at Chapel Gallery.

For the third year running the Gallery is inviting young artists of all abilities and talents to submit their work for selection towards a final exhibition.

Like the Gallery’s popular summer West Lancashire Open Exhibition for adults, it gives young people a unique chance to showcase their talents.

‘Out of This World!’ is the theme for this year, where young people aged between 8 to 18 years old are being encouraged to submit a piece of work inspired by intergalactic adventures or the world of the future. Will teachers be robots? Will we use new, incredible inventions in our homes? Perhaps you’ll pop to the shops in a hovering spacecraft or even have googly eyed Martians for neighbours!

Youngsters can use their imagination to create their own invention - in 2D or 3D, on card or paper, using paints, collage, prints or photography.

The deadline for entries is 31 October and judges will then select the best pieces. The artworks chosen will form an exhibition in the Gallery, which will run from 8th November to 10th January 2009.

Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said:"This is a great chance for any young people looking to develop a career in art because it provides a unique opportunity for them to exhibit their works in a professional, friendly environment. This year’s theme is a particularly fun one, so I’ll be expecting some crazy, imaginative ideas, such as spaceships fuelled by tomato soup!!! Anyone who’s interested should make sure they pick up an application form."

Anyone who would like to enter should contact Chapel Gallery on 01695 571328, email chapelgallery@westlancsdc.gov.uk or pop into the Gallery. Application forms should include name, age, address, contact details, email, and the type of media used.

The public can visit the Gallery, off St Helens Road, anytime from 10am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday. The café is open from 10am to 4pm. Entrance is free. To find out more contact 01695 571328 or visit the Gallery’s website - www.chapelgallery.org.uk or our Gallery pages.
