Ormskirk Christmas lights switch-on has the X
factor
X Factor’s glamorous finalists Bad Lashes will be in town on 28
November to turn on Ormskirk’s Christmas lights.
The all girl band, who reached the final of this year’s show,
will be warming up the festive crowds with the current number 1 hit
single, Hero, which was released in support of the Help the Heroes
and Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Bad Lashes, who were mentored by Irish pop mogul Louis Walsh,
were chosen to go through to the final 10 acts for the live show.
They are now enjoying success with a chart hit and are excited to
be coming to Ormskirk for the switch-on.
For some added festive cheer, last year’s youngest X Factor
contestant Steph Woods will also be making an appearance.
Steph, who lives in Skelmersdale, has her heart set on a
singing career and still cherishes her memories from last year’s
show, such as going out for a meal with Sharon and Jack Osbourne
and her time spent at boot camp.
They will join the Chairman of West Lancashire District Council,
Cllr Cyril Ainscough, who will be switching on the lights with the
singers.
In between the star-studded guest list, Andy Jay will be
bringing lots of fun and laughter to the stage to gear up the
crowds with music, family games and entertainment.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Community Services,
said:"Like everyone else, I’m glued to the TV on a Saturday night
to watch the X Factor and I’m so excited that Bad Lashes are coming
to Ormskirk to turn on the lights. I’m sure that fans of the show
will be flocking to the town centre to get a glimpse of the girls
and to support Steph Woods too, who has an amazing voice for a
16-year-old. It’s going to be a fantastic night so don’t miss
it."
All the entertainment starts at 4.00pm at the massive stage
truck at the clock tower, with plenty happening to keep the
children and adults entertained throughout the evening.
A procession will start from Ormskirk Parish Church, led by a
piper, the clergy, choir and local dignitaries. They will head
towards the event area at the clock tower for the start of the
carol service, which will start at 6pm. This will be conducted by
the local clergy, accompanied by Friends in Unison and Skelmersdale
Prize Brass Band.
Town Crier Don Evans will then call for order and will be asking
for the crowds to help him countdown to the big switch-on at 6.30pm
when Ormskirk will be full of light.
Refreshments will be served at Ormskirk Parish Church after the
event.
Visitors will also have the chance to pick up a Christmas gift
or two at one of the many charity stalls around the town centre or
at the Chapel Gallery’s Christmas Fine Art and Contemporary Craft
Fair.
