It’s a winning play area for Beacon Country
Park
Residents have given the thumbs up to their favourite design for
a new inclusive play area to be built at the award-winning Beacon
Country Park.
West Lancashire District Council is building a new play area at
the popular countryside site. It is intended that the area will
offer equal play opportunity for all children including those with
a disability.
In order to ensure that the most appropriate equipment was
chosen, potential users were given the opportunity to vote for
their favourite design.
Through consultations at the park, local schools and via the
Council website people voted for Sutcliffe Leisure’s innovative
ideas. This includes exciting new features alongside traditional
favourites.
Work is planned to start shortly to build the new play area,
which will result in a creative environment in which young people
can play and socialise.
Cllr Geoff Hammond, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said:
"Beacon Country Park is a popular site and as part of its
ongoing improvement programme we wanted to create a play facility
that youngsters of all abilities can enjoy, which is why it was
important to involve them in this consultation exercise. It was
great to see that lots of people took the opportunity to vote for
their favourite. Which was a clear winner from the various designs
offered. I would like to thank the designers for their efforts and
everyone who took the time to vote. I’m now looking forward to
seeing the new play area installed."
Earlier this year the Big Lottery Fund awarded the District
Council funding to improve access to play in West Lancashire.
Using part of this funding, together with a contribution from
the District Council this project will provide an excellent
accessible play area and will also compliment the on-going
initiative to improve access to the countryside for people with
disabilities.
