Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA)
West Lancashire District Council underwent a Comprehensive
Performance Assessment (CPA) by the Audit Commission during March
2007 and has been rated excellent.
CPA background information
CPA is a government inspection regime, bringing together all key
information on how well a council is run, the performance of its
services and the potential to improve. From this, councils receive
an overall judgement (poor, weak, fair, good, excellent) and use
the inspectors' findings to draw up an improvement plan.
CPA is all about helping local councils improve services for their
communities. The Audit Commission assesses the performance of
councils and the services that they provide for local people. The
assessment comprises evidence from other external review bodies
plus the Commission's judgements. The results of the assessment
helps councils to focus on improvement.
