Auditory bird scarers use noise to keep birds off crops. They
can range from propane powered guns which go off with a loud
explosion, to devices that imitate the call of predators. Bird
scarers are essential to protect certain crops. However, if used
thoughtlessly, they can annoy and disturb neighbours.
Register your bird scarer
If you are a farmer or landowner and you use bird scarers on
your land, please take a minute to register them using the
form below. This will help us to build a detailed picture of
how and where scarers are being used in the borough.
How to complain about a bird scarer
Bird scarers are not illegal, however they should be used within
the accepted guidelines. When dealing with complaints relating
to bird scarers, our Environmental Health team follow the
advice contained within the National Farmers Union Bird Scarer
Code of Practice.
If you’re troubled by a neighbouring bird scarer tell us
about it by completing our online
noise complaint form. Please try to provide details of the
exact location of the scarer and name of the person who
is responsible for the land.
