When to pay your rent
The amount of rent you pay depends on the type
of home you live in. The rent you are paying at the moment will be
shown on your rent card.
Your rent is due on the Monday of each week
starting from the Monday your tenancy begins. Your rent must be
paid on time.
There are occasional non-collection weeks in
each year when no rent is due, normally the first two weeks in
April and around Christmas time (although, people with rent owing -
called 'arrears'- must continue to pay in these weeks). Your rent
card will show you when these non-collection weeks are.
How to pay your rent
There is a wide range of methods to pay your
rent or other housing payment. Some of these methods are available
24 hours a day.
- Direct Debit - this is
the most convenient way to pay for many of our customers. We
currently offer monthly direct debit facilities on either the 1st
or 15th of each month. However, because your rent is due weekly in
advance, your direct debit payment must be paid in advance to
prevent your account falling into arrears.
If this is acceptable, please fill in the information and send the
mandates to us indicating your preferred payment
date.
- Download a direct debit form
As there will be a number of weeks lead in
time to the first payment, it is important you continue to pay your
weekly rent up to the first direct debit payment. If would like to
speak to a Housing Officer about this, please telephone
01695 585177 or email rentsteam@westlancs.gov.uk.
- On Line - by credit or debit
card
using the council's online payment service
- Automated Telephone Line -
by debit or credit card, telephone 08453052146,
this service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will
need to quote your rent account reference number.
- Post Office, Paypoint or
Payzone - retail outlets (with cash
only), although, you can pay by cheque at the Post Office made
payable to "Post Office Ltd". You must use your plastic rent payment card issued by the
council at these outlets.
- Standing Order
- through your bank account regularly, telephone
01695 585177 to make arrangements and to receive a standing order
mandate to pass to your bank.
- Post - by sending a cheque
or postal order made payable to West Lancashire Borough Council. Do
not send cash in the post.
- Telephone - with a
debit or credit card, telephone 01695 577177 and speak to a
Customer Services Advisor. Monday - Friday 8:30am to 5:30 pm.
