Paying your rent
The amount of rent you pay depends on the type of home you live in. The rent you are charged will be shown on your annual rent notification letter.
Your rent is due in advance on the Monday of each week starting from the Monday your tenancy begins. Your rent must be paid on time. You can check your rent account balance at any time - just register your details.
There are non-collection weeks in each year when rent is not due, however, people with rent owing - called 'arrears' - must continue to pay in these weeks.
The non-collection weeks are shown on the rent calendar.
How to pay your rent
There are a wide range of methods to pay your rent or other housing payments:

By direct debit
This is a quick and easy way to pay your rent. We offer two payment dates, 1st or 15th of the month. Send your completed direct debit mandate to: Housing and Inclusion Service, 49-51 Westgate, Skelmersdale, WN8 8LP.
By standing order
This is a quick and easy way to pay your rent. Send your completed mandate to your bank and email a copy to email@example.com or post to Housing and Inclusion Service, 49-51 Westgate, Skelmersdale, WN8 8LP.
Alternatively visit one of our Customer Service Points or call 01695 585252 to receive a standing order mandate.
- By debit/credit card using the 24 hour automated payment line on 01695 585150
- By debit/credit card by calling Customer Services on 01695 577177. Monday – Friday 8.30am to 5.30 pm.
- Post Office or Paypoint – at retail outlets (with cash only), by cheque at the Post Office, made payable to ‘Post Office Ltd’. You must use your plastic rent payment card issued by the Council at these outlets. If you need a replacement card please ring 01695 585252.
- Send a cheque or postal order made payable to West Lancashire Borough Council to Revenues and Benefits Service, PO Box 16, Ormskirk, L39 2DF. Please do not send cash through the post.
Check your rent account
You can text or email us at anytime to get your rent balance on demand. You will also get an update from us at the end of each month with the last ten transactions on your current rent account.
Just register your details using your rent account reference number, house number and postcode. We will check your details and then you can text or email us at anytime to get your rent balance on demand.
How your rent is used
The rent you pay is used in the following ways:
- To repair your home when things go wrong or are worn out
- To manage the housing service
- To pay for major repair work such as replacing kitchens, bathrooms and windows
If you have a surplus of credit you may be able to request a rent refund.
