Active West Lancs gives people of all ages the opportunity to embrace a healthier lifestyle.
Building on existing projects, this service includes gym-based programmes, swimming, health walks, school activities, family workshops, after-school clubs, weight management programmes, community farming/allotments, taster and physical activity sessions.
We run a wide range of activities across various settings such as leisure centres, community centres, parks & outdoor facilities, schools & community allotments in a bid to get our community more active.
Active West Lancs provides varied activities for a wide age range, with certain criteria for individual programmes.

Hit the Summer Scales: Drop-In sessions and Weight-loss tips at various venues across the borough - starts week beginning 9 July
No need to book, just turn up!
We run free 12 week gym courses from four leisure centres across the borough. We offer supervised sessions and a discounted 6 month gym membership at the end of the course if interested. Our programme is open to residents of West Lancs, aged 18yrs and over. The criteria for the scheme is that you are currently 'inactive' and have at least one health condition.

We have just completed our 9 week course , based at Bickerstaffe CE School, Ormskirk L39 0EH.
Started on week one with 60 seconds of running followed by 90 seconds of walking, for a total of 20 minutes. Gradually built this up over the weeks to a constant 35 minute run! Finally, as a group, we took part in the Ormksirk Park Run!!!

Come along to our new Tai Chi class were you will be introduced to an easy and effective Tai Chi form proven to regulate blood insulin levels, improve balance, coordination, and well-being and alleviate stress and anxiety.
Please wear comfortable clothing and flat-soled footwear (soft trainers); bring a bottle of water for the break.

A brand new initiative for you to be referred onto by your GP or medical practitioner. We will be holding weekly golf sessions on Fridays, 10.00am - 12.00pm at Beacon Golf Club, Upholland, WN8 7RU.
Equipment can be borrowed on the day – no previous golf experience needed!! So if you fancy some fresh air, meeting new people and socialising, then have a chat with your GP and if you meet the criteria, you can be referred. Please note, this is the only programme that is soley GP Referral only.
