When a loved one dies, family and close friends suddenly face many questions about what to do and at a time when emotional stress is high. The links below may offer some help on who to turn to for guidance, assistance and counselling.

The Directgov (external link) website includes advice about:

  • what to do when someone dies
  • making a will
  • advice on arranging a funeral
  • registering a death

Support and counselling

  • Cruse Bereavement Care (external link): offers free information and advice to anyone who has been affected by a death. It also offers education, support, information and publications to anyone supporting bereaved people.
  • The Child Bereavement Trust (external link): is a national UK charity founded to improve the support offered by professionals to grieving families.
  • The Compassionate Friend (external link): supports bereaved parents and their families after the death of a child or children. It also offers support, advice and information to other relatives, friends and professionals who are helping the family.
