Together with the Local Strategic Partnership we have a
regeneration strategy which sets out the key challenges facing the
future of the borough and ways to make social, economic and
environmental improvements.
Regeneration projects to date have included:
Market Towns Initiative
Aimed to bring a new lease of life to the borough, in particular
the market towns of Ormskirk and Burscough. We worked closely with
the local community to conduct 'health checks' and develop an
action plan to take the towns forward.

Redevelopment of Burscough
An £11.5 million physical regeneration project to revitalise
Burscough and give it back its sense of identity. A number of
visual and environmental improvements were made. This project was
also awarded a Highly Commended accolade given by the Landscape
Institute Awards 2008 ( design under 1 ha category) and a
"Commendation" from the Royal Town Planning Institute.
Inspire Regeneration Project

Several schemes have taken place as part of the Inspire
project:
- Employment area improvements
- Town centre enhancements
- Gateway and transport improvements
- Village improvements
All of the above projects were funded or part
funded by the North West Regional Development Agency via the West
Lancashire Local Strategic Partnership's investing in Business
programme.
Skelmersdale - Building a town centre to be proud of
We have drawn up a 'masterplan' for Skelmersdale, after
extensive consultation with local people, which set out the vision
for creating a new heart for the town and bringing in the
facilities that local people have said they want. It is a long term
scheme to benefit everyone in the town and make it an even better
place to live, work and visit.
