Town centre enhancements
Town centres are the focal point for
shopping and leisure in the local community and we are keen to
ensure that the district’s town centres are attractive places to
work in and visit.
To date, improvements include:
Ormskirk town centre
In 2007 a major public realm improvement
scheme for Aughton Street was undertaken. This included the
provision of:
- A re-paved Aughton Street pedestrian area

- replacement lighting columns
- new street furniture, including bins and
benches
- be-spoke seating
- new bulb planters and tree planting
These improvement were
funded by the Council, with the cost of the repaving works
part-funded by the Inspire Project.
In addition to this work, Ormskirk car park
improvement schemes have also been carried out at Hants Lane,
Park Pool, The Stiles, and Wheatsheaf Car Parks. Improvements have
included:
- re-kerbing, re-surfacing, re-lining of
bays
- tree and landscape planting
- provision of replacement street
furniture
To visually tie the town centre together, in
partnership with Lancashire County Council, footway improvements
have been made to Park Road and St Helens Road, with use of
heritage style block paviers. (The scheme for St Helens Road having
been part funded by the Inspire Project).
Finally, the Council have recently funded
conservation improvements to the Clock Tower in Ormskirk. The Clock
Tower is the focal point of the town centre and a Grade II listed
building.
