Market Towns Initiative
The aim of the market
towns initiative is to bring a new lease of life to the market
towns of Ormskirk and Burscough, so that they provide convenient
access to the services that towns' people and surrounding rural
communities depend on.
How the project works
The aim of the project is to work with the whole of the local
community to revitalise the two towns and make them better places
to live, work and visit. The Market Towns team will form a
community partnership to carry out a health check of the towns -
which will address and assess the towns' social, environmental,
economical and transport issues. Once all of this information is
gathered then an Action Plan will be devised highlighting projects
to be taken forward in each town.
- Burscough and Ormskirk health checks: health
checks on Ormskirk and Burscough's economy, environment, community,
transport and access.
- Community
Consultation: a major community consultation exercise has
taken place to find out residents' views on how to improve Ormskirk
and Burscough.
- Draft Action
Plans: read the draft plans prepared by the local community to
improve Ormskirk and Burscough.
- Ormskirk quality of life surveys: results of the
consultation with Ormskirk residents from Spring 2006.
- Wish
trees consultation: see the results of the Wish Tree exercise -
held in Burscough and Ormskirk - to identify attractive areas, grot
spots, unsafe and nuisance areas.
Have your say and make a difference
It's essential that as many people from as many different areas of
the community as possible have a say - your views are extremely
important and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to help
create a vibrant, healthy and sustainable community for your
towns.
If you are a resident, business or community group in Ormskirk or
Burscough and are interested in getting involved use the
Market Towns online form to:
- tell us what you think - submit comments and views on the town
such as what you like, what you don't like and what do you wish to
see in the town
- register to get updates about what's happening or
- join the community partnership
Project funding
The Market Towns Initiative has been funded by the North West
Regional Development Agency (NWDA) via the West Lancashire LSP's
