An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Enforcement Officer within a busy Planning Team at West Lancashire Borough Council. You will be responsible for investigating allegations of possible breaches of planning legislation, e.g. work being carried out without planning permission or not in accordance with approved plans. Previous experience of planning enforcement work would be beneficial however, is not essential to be successful in this role.

Our Enforcement Officers seek to resolve breaches of planning control through negotiation or by planning enforcement procedures and are supported in this role by qualified planning staff in the Development Management Team. We are therefore looking for somebody with good negotiation skills that can deal with difficult situations with a firm but fair approach.

Your days will be varied as duties will include site visits, interviewing persons involved, and collecting evidence, presenting evidence at appeals and appearing in court. You will produce thorough and accurate work and have effective communication skills.
