We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our team and make a real difference now and into the future. This is a newly created role; it is unique, ambitious and reflects our passion to deliver a positive customer experience and make a positive impact locally. The person we appoint should be equally unique, ambitious and committed to ensuring that West Lancashire Borough Council is the best it can be. With a salary package of up to £37,306 and a 36 hour week based in Skelmersdale, this is a great place to work.

We are looking for a leader that can inspire, engage and communicate effectively at all levels; someone who understands the importance and need for compliance legislation, especially in regards to water hygiene, fire safety, asbestos management, electrical and gas safety and  who shares our values and ambitions. The successful candidate needs to be driven by excellent performance and results and is always looking for ways to improve service and build on success.

At West Lancashire Borough Council we develop our staff and nurture their talent; we see this role as a potential opportunity for someone who wants to progress in this field. It provides a unique opportunity of leading a busy, hard-working team with the added responsibility of highlighting, addressing and implementing change in areas of non-compliance. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain wider experience; work with some great colleagues and be part of an amazing team that has set some ambitious goals for the future.

Every day will be different with lots of variety and challenges. This role is perfect for someone who has an eye for detail, loves to lead, influence and shape change but is also equally happy to get their hands dirty to ensure we deliver.

Important advice about completing your application

Your completed application form plays an important part of your selection as it is the only basis for considering your initial suitability for the post.

The following advice should help you to complete the application form as effectively as possible:

  • Consider the contents of the Job Description, Person Specification and Application Form. Ask yourself why you are interested in the job. Don't copy the same application for a series of jobs.
  • Study the Person Specification carefully. This outlines the essential abilities/skills/experience and other requirements that are required for this job.  It also lists the desirable criteria that ideally we would like the candidate to possess to have the potential to develop.
  • Try to complete your application in a concise, well-organised and positive way.
  • Check for spelling or grammatical errors if this is important in the job that you are applying for, do not rely on spell check.
