Housing strategy consultation

We carried out consultation on a draft housing strategy, which  aims to provide good quality housing that meets people’s changing needs and is located within pleasant, safe and sustainable communities. Residents and other interested parties were invited to review the draft and give their views. The public consultation process  closed on 28 February 2014.

Community Infrastructure Levy

The Council consulted on a 'Community Infrastructure Levy' (commonly called 'CIL') for West Lancashire. CIL allows local authorities to raise funds from developers who are undertaking new building projects in their area. The money can be used to pay for a wide range of infrastructure needed as a result of development. The West Lancashire Borough Council Community Infrastructure Levy Charging Schedule (WLBC CIL Charging Schedule) was adopted at Full Council on 23 July 2014. It took effect on 1 September 2014.

Balancing the budget

The Council invited local people and organisations to give their views on proposals to make savings, efficiencies and increases in income. The consultation closed on 11 September 2013 and the Council met in October 2013 to make final decisions.

Gypsy and Traveller Sites

The Council is required by national planning policy to ensure that there are enough sites available in West Lancashire to meet the needs of the travelling community. This includes Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople. In September 2013, the Council carried out a 'call for sites' exercise. We will assess all sites that have been submitted to us, along with other sites which were previously brought to our attention. The most suitable sites will be shortlisted, and will feed into a planning document that the Council is preparing. This document will allocate specific sites in West Lancashire for the travelling community.
