Come to an important meeting of the Friends of Tawd Valley Park

Do you want to get involved in a community group that is playing a key role in a major project to improve Tawd Valley Park?

There has been a lot of interest from the local community in establishing a Friends Of Tawd Valley Park Group.

The group will work with West Lancashire Borough Council and partners the River Douglas Catchment Partnership, the Environment Agency, Groundwork CLM, West Lancashire CVS, West Lancashire College, SHARES, Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Engineering College, Lathom High School and the County Council on an exciting scheme to make the park an even better places for visitors to enjoy.

Proposals in the draft Tawd Valley Masterplan include:
• New cycle paths
• New wetland habitat areas
• Improvements to the amphitheatre to create an informal event space
• Creation of a heritage trail
• New picnic spaces close to the town centre
• Access and improvement work to footpaths and landscapes

There is also potential for a new visitor centre, new play area and a BMX track as well as a fishing lake.

A number of local people have already joined the group. If you are interested in becoming a member but haven't been able to attend any previous meetings then you are more than welcome to come to an important meeting to be held on Thursday 24 May at 7pm in the Ecumenical Centre, Northway, Skelmersdale.

The purpose of the meeting is to formulate a Friends of Tawd Valley Park Committee and to adopt the Constitution which at present is in draft format. But you can also express an interest in joining the group.

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: "People living and working in the local area are more than welcome to come along to this meeting to find out more about the Friends Group to see if they would be interested in joining and getting involved in this exciting project."
