Sign up for art classes at the Chapel Gallery

With 2016 still a relatively new year if you are looking to start a new hobby then the Chapel Gallery has some excellent creative classes on offer.

For young people aged 8 – 18 years old there is the Chapel Gallery Art Club, with great opportunities for those who enjoy being creative and learning new skills. Professional artists Sarah Jane Richards, Emma Blackburn and Gill Smith plan sessions to enable young people to widen their understanding of the arts. The Chapel Gallery is also a centre for the national accredited Arts Awards Scheme and a number of art club students have earned awards.

There are different art club sessions for different age groups each Saturday. Please contact the West Lancashire Borough Council-run Gallery on 01695 571328 or email chapel.gallery@westlancs.gov.uk for more details.

For adults we offer our established Life Drawing classes. These sessions run once a month on Thursday from 7pm – 9pm. These classes are for all ranges of ability. Sarah Jane Richards facilitates the sessions and a professional model is used. Materials are provided but if you would like to bring your own you can.

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “Come along and join in this great sessions at the Gallery. They are very enjoyable for artists of all abilities.”

Chapel Gallery offers gift vouchers for sessions for all of the above classes so if you know someone who wants to join in this is a great gift to get them started.

New Gallery sessions being planned for 2016 include creative activities for younger children and families. These will only go ahead if there is sufficient interest so please contact the gallery if this is something you or your family are interested in.

Creative start is aimed at pre-school children and parents to work together on creative projects. These sessions will be facilitated by an artist.

Creative Foundations is a session that encourages creative thinking and basic skills such as colour mixing and cutting. It is aimed at children from 5 – 7 who will feel comfortable being left by themselves with a session facilitator. Write Stuff is a group for young people aged 11 – 18 with a keen interest in creative writing and enjoy writing for fun. This is an opportunity to work with a professional writer Sarah Schofield and find out how to take your writing further.
