Book your children's places now for the Junior Rangers events

A fabulous free month of activities has been lined up for children aged between 5 and 12 throughout August with the Junior Rangers Club.

Events have been organised by West Lancashire Borough Council Parks and Countryside Ranger Service in parks across the borough.

Children can learn outdoor survival skills, enjoy arts activities and find out more about the animals and plants that live in our parks.

They can even have the opportunity to do their John Muir Discovery Award which helps them to discover, explore, conserve and share experiences of a wild space. They must attend at least four sessions to achieve the award. To read more about this award visit John Muir Award (external link). Contact Anne Faulkner, urban park ranger, on 01695 570258 or email anne.faulkner@westlancs.gov.uk for more details. You must register with Anne for the award.

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure said: “Children can enjoy exciting activities in the Junior Rangers programme this summer and learn a lot about nature and wildlife. The events are free so book on and come and join the Junior Rangers.”

All the Junior Rangers’ activities take place between 2pm and 4pm and they start with Natural Art at Coronation Park, Ormskirk on Monday 1 August. There are further art events at Beacon Country Park on Tuesday 16 August and Wednesday 24 August.

The junior rangers can learn more about Outdoor Survival skills at Beacon Country Park on Tuesday 2 August. They can then turn into investigators at Urban Nature Detectives sessions on Wednesday 3 August at Stanley Coronation Park, Skelmersdale, and Richmond Park, Burscough, on Wednesday 10 August.
