Ormskirk Town Centre Strategy available online now
The official final version of the exciting blueprint designed to help Ormskirk have an even more vibrant and successful future is now available for all to see.
The Ormskirk Town Centre Strategy is a five year plan which has been developed to help drive growth and ensure that Ormskirk can remain attractive and competitive as our high streets change. West Lancashire Borough Council worked with local stakeholders to create the strategy.
West Lancashire residents and businesses had their say on a draft of the document through a public consultation process and their views have helped inform the final document. This has now been officially adopted by the Council and endorsed by partners and can be viewed at Regeneration.
Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of the Council and portfolio holder for Economic Regeneration, said: “I am really pleased that we now have the final strategy and I encourage people to visit the Council’s website and take a look at it. We are already working on some of the actions outlined in the strategy with our partners and we will continue with the strategy to help ensure Ormskirk has a vibrant and successful future.”
The strategy aims to provide a clear direction to deliver positive change, improve business confidence and encourage quality investment. It outlines a long term vision for the town centre, and identifies short-term priorities to address key issues and capitalise on opportunities available. These priorities have been developed into a five-year action plan, which is a working document to be monitored and updated on a regular basis.
Some of the strategy’s other key aims include:
- Developing a brand marketing campaign and improving the management of the town centre.
- Improving and enhancing the appearance and appeal of the town centre including making the most of the town’s historic character.
- Reviewing the current car parking arrangements.
- Improving the current transport and access arrangement in the town.
- Considering opportunities to improve the evening economy, such as working with local retailers to explore the opportunities to keep their stores open later to coincide with events such as evening entertainment, evening markets and outdoor food and drinks festivals.
A town centre management group and three sub-groups have been formed to ensure the aims of the strategy are carried out. The groups are made up of the Council and a number of local organisations including Edge Hill University; Edge Hill Students’ Union; Love Ormskirk; Ormskirk Community Partnership and Business in the Community.
