The whole family can enjoy a great day out in West Lancashire's parks at our fantastic events

From early morning birdsong to a trip back in time there are plenty of free fun activities for people to enjoy in West Lancashire’s parks in May 2014.

On Sunday 4 May early risers can experience nature's daily miracle – the dawn chorus – on International Dawn Chorus Day. This short walk around the park starts at 6am from the bowling pavilion in Coronation Park, Ormskirk, and West Lancashire Borough Council rangers will even provide tea and toast!

Walkers can discover some of West Lancashire’s beautiful countryside on the Tarleton Circular Walk on Monday 5 May. The walk starts at 10am from the car park in Mark Square in the centre of Tarleton and will be about 8 miles long. It is likely to be muddy in places on this bank holiday event so please wear suitable footwear and clothing.

If you have ever wondered what Coronation Park in Ormskirk may have looked like 1,000 years ago then come along to the Ormskirk Medieval Weekend on Saturday 17 May and Sunday 18 May. Between 10am and 4pm on both days visitors can experience the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of the past as Historia Normannis take them on a journey through time. The park will be alive with interactive displays, including medieval crafts and archery demonstrations. Other attractions include face painting, themed stalls and story-telling. A similar event held last year was so successful organisers have decided to expand the event to go over the whole weekend.

Come to Coronation Park, Ormskirk, on Monday 26 May at 2pm and you can join in the open bowls session. All the family can play crown green bowls from kids to grandparents and it's a great sport for making new friends, so don’t miss this great chance to try it out. A similar bowls event takes place at Richmond Park, Burscough, on Wednesday 28 May at 2pm.

All children under 16 require adult supervision at all of these events. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear for the weather and ground conditions.
